What we do

The Equal Opportunity Commission of 91¶ÌÊÓƵ administers the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA). In doing so, it helps 91¶ÌÊÓƵns understand their rights and responsibilities under the Act. We do this by providing information and education about unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation, and we manage complaints in an impartial way, focusing on fair and lawful outcomes.

If someone believes they have experienced unlawful discrimination, harassment or victimisation, they can submit a written complaint to the Equal Opportunity Commission. The Commission will assess the complaint and, where appropriate, support an impartial conciliation process to help the people involved achieve a fair resolution. Where a matter cannot be resolved through conciliation, it may be referred to the State Administrative Tribunal for further consideration.

Education and engagement are also central to the Commission’s work. The Commission provides information, training, and community engagement activities to help individuals, employers and organisations understand the law, recognise discrimination, harassment and victimisation, and take practical steps to prevent it.

You can find more information on the Complaints Process here.

The videos below explain what unlawful discrimination and harassment is and how the complaints process works.
