The Ministerial Taskforce on Climate Action, formed in May 2021, has made supporting CO2 storage a key priority. The Geological Survey of 91¶ÌÊÓƵ (GSWA) received government funding to create a new CO2 Storage Atlas for 91¶ÌÊÓƵ. The project started on 1 July 2022 and is ongoing. The Atlas will help the government and industry better understand the potential for storing CO2 permanently by identifying geologically attractive areas for permanent underground storage.
