Intellectual property (IP) includes everything from inventions to written works, artworks, designs, images and software. It could be described as ‘creations of the mind’ or exclusive knowledge.
People who create IP have certain rights if someone else uses their IP. They are protected by law to ensure they receive recognition and financial reward for the use of their IP.
The activities of the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ often generate IP with potential economic, social and environmental benefits for the community. The government aims to maximise these benefits, and where possible, works with WA’s business communities and not-for-profit sectors to achieve this.
