A Girrawheen man who used a tip truck to illegally dump waste, including sheets of tin and tree roots, has been fined $6,000 plus costs.
Adam Gianni NICOZIANNI, 43, was photographed in the hired tip truck heading east on Dalison Avenue in Wattleup on 25 September 2021. He was photographed a short time later leaving the area with the vehicle鈥檚 tray empty. The waste was later found at the site by inspectors from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.
In the Fremantle Magistrates Court on Friday 6 January 2023, Magistrate Watt fined Mr Nicozianni $6000 and ordered him to pay $318 costs.
The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation鈥檚 Executive Director for Compliance and Enforcement, Kelly Faulkner, said concealed cameras are regularly used in catching offenders.
鈥淲e will keep using hidden cameras and surveillance teams to prosecute people who do the wrong thing,鈥 she said.
鈥淔or anyone thinking of illegal dumping, it鈥檚 worth considering if a significant fine and a court record is worth it. Please do the right thing by the environment and take your waste to an authorised waste facility.鈥
Anyone who witnesses illegal dumping is asked to call the department鈥檚 Pollution Watch Hotline on 1300 784 782, email pollutionwatch@dwer.wa.gov.au or call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
