The program is a diversity and inclusion initiative designed to provide opportunities for Aboriginal graduates, to develop their careers and increase the department’s workforce representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.  

This program also aligns with the 91����Ƶn State Government’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders People Action Plan 2020-2025, which aims to increase the representation in the sector providing a range of opportunities.  

Director General of the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation Michelle Andrews said that this provides a great opportunity for Aboriginal graduates to enhance their careers across water and environmental regulation and in a State Government agency.  

“When we have a workplace that brings together different beliefs and cultures, we create more opportunities and a better workplace,” Ms Andrews said. 

“Knowledge from First Nations people plays a huge role in shaping how we can care for our country. This Aboriginal Graduate Program is just one of the targeted programs that aims to attract a First Nations voice into our workforce and it aligns with the Department’s Reconciliation Action Plan.

Senior Manager Aboriginal Engagement and Partnerships Jillian Collard said this program is aimed at Aboriginal Graduates that have a keen interest in a career centred around caring for Country. 

“We know that there is so much that Aboriginal graduates can get out of the program, including the ability to work across our various teams and enhance their careers at an organisation that embraces inclusivity and diversity.”&�Բ�����;

The program is also part of the State Government’s Place of Opportunity campaign that showcases the WA public sector’s amazing range of graduate and cadetship programs.
